Uno is a popular card game known for its simplicity and excitement. The game is designed for 2 to 10 players, and the objective is to be the first player to score 500 points. Here’s a basic guide on how to play Uno:
Objective:
The goal of Uno is to be the first player to reach 500 points. Points are scored by playing all the cards in your hand and, for each remaining card in your opponents’ hands, scoring points based on their face value.
Setup:
- Deck: Uno is played with a deck of 108 cards. The deck consists of four colors (red, yellow, green, blue), each with numbers from 0 to 9, special action cards, and Wild cards.
- Dealer: Choose a dealer randomly. The dealer shuffles the deck and deals seven cards to each player.
Gameplay:
- Starting the Game: The player to the dealer’s left goes first. Play proceeds clockwise.
- Playing Cards:
- You can play a card if it matches the color or number of the top card on the discard pile.
- Special cards have unique actions. The action must be carried out by the next player in turn unless the action is canceled by another special card.
- Special Cards:
- Skip: Skips the next player’s turn.
- Reverse: Reverses the direction of play.
- Draw Two: Forces the next player to draw two cards and forfeit their turn.
- Wild: Allows the player to choose the color to continue the game.
- Wild Draw Four: Allows the player to choose the color and forces the next player to draw four cards.
- Challenges:
- If a Wild Draw Four card is played, a player may challenge it. If the challenged player has a card of the declared color, the challenger must draw four cards instead. If not, the challenged player draws six cards.
- Uno Call:
- When a player has one card left, they must say “Uno” aloud. Failure to do so before another player notices results in a penalty (drawing two cards).
- Winning the Round:
- The round ends when a player plays their last card. Points are scored based on the remaining cards in opponents’ hands. Number cards are worth their face value, and special cards are worth 20 points each.
Scoring:
- The first player to reach 500 points (or another predetermined target) wins the game.
House Rules:
Feel free to add house rules to make the game more interesting, such as stacking Draw Two and Draw Four cards, or allowing special actions to be countered with other special cards.
Remember that Uno is a flexible game, and house rules can be adapted to suit the preferences of the players.
